Susana Menendez Bright Future Scholarship
Asylum seekers have often had to overcome great adversity to start over in a new country. As the number of refugees in the Netherlands is increasing rapidly, a higher education institution is opening its doors to give them the chance to become a valuable member of society. We believe international talent should not go to waste, which is why The Hague University of Applied Sciences and The Hague University of Applied Science Pro are offering up to three Susana Menendez Bright Future Scholarships (BFS) for the 2024-2025 academic year that are open to all asylum status holders. In our opinion, higher education plays an essential role in preparing refugees for the Dutch job market and expanding their network and knowledge. We are looking for talented people and professionals who are ready to take on the challenge and join one of our Master’s programmes (available in English).
The scholarship covers the full tuition fee for successful candidates. Books will be provided for, but must be returned after graduation.

Student motivation letter
It is important that you devote the utmost attention to your motivation for studying. We recommend that you read the eligibility criteria for the embassy and make sure to answer all questions in such a way that this will result in a positive assessment. Your motivation should not be general, but unique. It is important that you show the embassy that, on returning to your country, you will be in a position to create a positive change in your organisation and for your country. This information is very important for the embassies when evaluating your application and cannot be underestimated.
Scholarships in your home country
It is worth checking whether any scholarships are available in your home country. For example, American students can apply for a Fulbright scholarship and there is an EU-South Africa Scholarship Programme available to South African students. Your country may offer similar grants. For more information or application forms, contact your local Dutch embassy or ask your current higher educational institution. The Grantfinder website also provides some useful information on scholarships. This website is part of the Netherlands Organisation for International Cooperation in Higher Education (Nuffic).
